The competition offered what our partner Marty Lillepold described as a project of ‘messy creativity’ to get more comfortable in our new shared studio. A rich historical site, large complex program and restrictive building envelope were vehicles to translate our working method and ideas from the small personal spaces we have traditionally focused on since the inception of the practice. Our design approach continued ongoing explorations into material craft, patterns of use, subtle spatial linkages and overviews, overlaid with sustainable design technologies at the scale of a large cultural institution.
